The paintings unfold gradually, intuitively. Through layers of accrued oil paint I hope to create windows, points of departure that can lead the viewer to new and never traveled before places. The pictures are open-ended, titles are not narratives or definitions but words I feel compliment the language of the paint itself. I want to leave the viewer space to draw their own inferences from the architecture of their own private imaginations.
I believe in an abundance of goodness and beauty and in our individual responsibility to cultivate this within ourselves so that we can share it with one another. My work is about this – about this process of nurturing something into bloom. Being self- taught has given me the freedom to break all of the rules I never knew and the freedom to paint without fear. I rejoice in this freedom-it keeps me painting from the inside out, happy and sincere.
