On Thursday, May 2nd Fortunate Discoveries their one year birthday with a party! Guests enjoyed the celebration with wine, hors d’oeuvres, and a book signing from painter & photographer Larry W Green! Thanks to all that came out to help Fortunate Discoveries along with the artists and designers who have called Armitage their home for the past year!

First Thursdays came back to Lincoln Park on March 4th and were a success at Fortunate Discoveries! Guests enjoyed great art, the launch of Common Thread along with CALM Skin Care’s new makeup line. Guests were also entered in a raffle to win a great bench courtesy of Fortunate Discoveries all while having great snacks!

On Thursday, April 11th, 2013 the Lincoln Park Merchants Association held their Spring Forward Fashion Show at Essentia. Fortunate Discoveries featured designs from Julie Kramer and Tania Rodamilans in the fashion show.

Michigan Avenue Magazine, ART & CRAFTS EVENT

Sponsored by INFINITY cars and Michigan Avenue Magazine, the ARTS & CRAFTS event paired Fine Art with 6 breweries featuring Craft Beer. Along with artists from Ken Suanders Gallery and Addington Gallery, Fortunate Discoveries provided 8 Fine Artists and their art for the event. Kicking the event off with live painting by FD artist Jackely Lakely, FD was honored to have the artwork of artists Sarah Raskey, Chris Heck, George Swanke, Irena Swiek, Jason Patrick Miller, Tania Rodamilians, Michelle Gordon & Jhenai Mootz

About Justin D. Miller

I am a Chicago area resident who grew up in the suburb of La Grange Park. After high school I went downstate to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to study Architecture. I continued there for graduate school, and after more than 6 years including 12 months in Europe, I returned to Chicago with my degrees. My future wife, Jackie, and I decided to try something new, and after another year we moved West to Portland, Oregon. Over the next 8 years we lived in 3 states, including the San Francisco Bay Area and Boise, Idaho. After our first daughter was born we moved back to Chicago where we had our second daughter.

I worked in the field of Architecture for 3 years, then moved to the emerging field of digital graphics and websites in 2000. In the years since I have designed websites for technical organizations and administered ecommerce websites. While I have always engaged in art, I started oil painting as a hobby to stimulate my creative energy that I could not in my professional fields. I was attracted to Surrealist painting because I felt it closely aligned with my own creative goals.

I use my free time on photography, walking around Chicago, and going on road trips out West to inspiring destinations, usually desolate and extreme, and always visually exciting.

ABOUT NANCY: With over 40 years of ongoing art education, I have learned and practiced a multitude of disciplines. My early interest in oil painting led me to graphic art (pen & ink and graphite) working as a freelance portrait artist using pencil on board and oil on canvas – creating several commissioned pieces for clients as far away as Maryland. A shift to wall-scale art became the basis of my business (ARTEFFECTS) and an ensuing career as a decorative painter, specializing in trompe l’oiel (a 2D technique that appears to be 3D) – painting residential as well as commercial interiors. Process painting at the Studio for Experiential Painting in Elmhurst inspired me to become a more intuitive painter. Computer graphic art (digital art) followed and has meshed beautifully with my other artistic skills.My portfolio reflects the tapestry of my artistic endeavors and I am very proud of my extensive following of happy and satisfied clients.
